Lifters preparing for regional meet

The powerlifting meet is on March 8 in Gatesville. The past meets are good to reflect on during the weeks before regionals.

“My favorite meet was Bosqueville because we talked smack to everyone there,” Caleb McCaig said. He said his favorite memory of the season was “watching Mack fall back on squat at the West meet.”

Although now hurt and unable to compete, Garrett Boyd chose to powerlift because, “It's fun to prove yourself. It feels good to lift a lot of weight.”

Travis Veselka, who competes in the 132 weight class, and Mack Martinez, who competes in the 198 weight class, both qualified for the regional meet. “It feels really good to know I'm that good enough to advance to regionals,” Veselka said. “It feels good to accomplish something that I never thought I could,” Martinez said.

Aaron Bright, Jose Gonzalez, Justin Parra, Matt Frazier, Matt Hicks, Zack O'Connor and Wyatt Hudson also qualified for the regional meet.
