I hope everyone is having a great week! I would like for you all to join me in congratulating the Faculty and Staff Members of the Month. These outstanding team members have gone above and beyond the call of duty for the betterment of our district. If you see them in your hallways or on your campuses please congratulate them.
Elementary Faculty Member of the Month – Congratulations to Whitney Ward, 5th grade teacher at the Intermediate School, on being nominated and selected as the Faculty Member of the Month. She works tirelessly to create engaging well rounded lessons. Her students are never without an activity to do to enrich and stretch their math skills. She pushes herself to always be a student herself learning with the students and when visiting in her class I always learn something myself as well! The students love her delivery and it is evident that she applies best practices throughout her teaching day! A fellow teacher says of her, “Whitney Ward is a great asset to our 5th grade team, and I would like to nominate her as teacher of the month. She works endless hours preparing and then teaching individualized/differentiated lessons to meet the needs of ALL of her students. Whitney knows her students' weaknesses, as well as their strengths and designs her instruction to support both. She is available to students daily during morning tutorials and elective tutorials. Her genuine concern about what is best for ALL students can be witnessed during her class time instruction and even more so during her late evenings spent planning and adjusting her lessons.” Mrs. Ward is definitely deserving of recognition for her commitment to China Spring Intermediate and we are so glad to have her.” Congratulations Mrs. Ward!
Secondary Faculty Member of the Month – Congratulations to Coach Burnham, History Teacher at the High School, on being selected as the Secondary Faculty Member of the Month. Ron Burnham is a passionate teacher who brings Social Studies on the high school campus to life in his classroom through various innovative lessons. The passion that Coach Burnham exudes is contagious in the Social Studies hallway. Students comment about how much Coach Burnham "loves what he teaches and that he is always excited when he's in front of us talking about our great country". Other Social Studies teachers have said that Coach Burnham appreciates the valuable lessons that history teaches us and uses those lessons to impact his students' futures. One parent emailed that Coach Burnham has “come up in conversation at our house with our student several times, and each time it's about how awesome his class is and how much passion Coach Burnham has about History." Coach Burnham is the constant professional who takes care of his many responsibilities with diligence and passion and represents China Spring High School History Department well. Congratulations Coach Burnham!
Staff Member of the Month – Congratulations to Katherine Melvin, Study Lab Paraprofessional, on being nominated and selected as the Staff Member of the Month. Ms. Melvin runs our Study Lab classroom, helping a variety of students every single day. She helps students struggling in class get additional assistance to help them be successful and stay caught up on assignments. She also helps students stay organized and for many, transition to having 9 periods of “stuff” to keep up with. She is constantly looking for innovative ways to spiral review concepts in Study Lab to help students master the key components from their other classes. During our staff in-service a teacher shared a short presentation on Pear Deck. Ms. Melvin took that knowledge and did her own homework to learn even more. She has now added Pear Deck to her innovative tool bag she uses in Study Lab to help students. Kids were using it recently in class to practice vocabulary terms and illustrate different types of cells. Anytime there is training, she is eager to attend and then try those new practices in her classroom. She goes above and beyond on her own time to create quizlets and kahoots to help her students! I am very thankful for Ms. Melvin and her eagerness to learn new things and then to implement those things in the classroom to help students. The students love Ms. Melvin because she excels at forming relationships. They know that she really cares about them and wants them to do well. Ms. Melvin is also a wonderful team player. For two years in a row she has volunteered to chair one of our Sunshine Committees on our campus and she works very hard to plan wonderful events through her committee. Ms. Melvin has a wonderful heart, a big smile, and we are blessed to have her in our CSMS family! Congratulations to Ms. Melvin!
