Credit by Exam

China Spring ISD offers examinations for acceleration at every grade level and for every core content area for grades K-12.






1. Scores on readiness or achievement test that may be administered by appropriate District personnel.

2. Recommendation of the kindergarten or preschool the student has attended.

3. Chronological age and observed social and emotional development of the student.

4. Other criteria deemed appropriate by the principal and Superintendent.


Grades 1-5:


1. The student scores 80 or above on a criterion referenced test for the grade level to be skipped in each of the following areas: language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies;

2. A District representative recommends the student be accelerated; and

3. The student’s parent or guardian gives written approval of the acceleration.


Grades 6-12:


The district shall give a student in grades 6-12 credit for an academic subject in which the student has no prior instruction if the student scores 80 percent or above on a criterion-referenced examination for acceleration for the applicable course. To register for acceleration examinations, contact the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction via the campus counselor. Give the following information in the email:


1. Name of student

2. Contact information of parents 

3. Grade level to be skipped and subject(s) to be testes in the skipped grade level.

^^Students in grades 1-8 wishing to accelerate during the January administration must meet the criteria of 80% or higher on eight examinations. Students must accelerate out of the last half of their current grade level and the first half of the grade level in which they wish to accelerate in each of the core subjects: reading, mathematics, science, and social studies.


**High School acceleration during this window is only available for courses not assessed with STAAR end-of-course exams. For courses assessed with STAAR end-of-course exams, students must meet one of the following criteria:


• A three (3) or higher on a College Board AP examination

• A scale score of 60 or higher on a College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) examination


++High School students may not accelerate out of courses in which they are currently enrolled during the September administration.
