James Slater Named Chief Financial Officer for China Spring ISD

China Spring ISD names James Slater as the district's Chief Financial Officer (CFO). With more than 13 years of experience in school finance and a strong background in business leadership, Slater will play a key role in maintaining the district's long-standing tradition of financial excellence.

Slater most recently served as assistant superintendent for business and operations and CFO at Connally ISD. He also held leadership roles at Mexia ISD and Copperas Cove ISD, where he managed multimillion-dollar budgets, led finance teams and implemented policies to support responsible spending and strategic growth.

"Mr. Slater brings deep experience in Texas school finance and a clear commitment to fiscal integrity," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marc Faulkner. "He will be instrumental in helping us continue our strong financial stewardship for years to come."

For more than two decades, China Spring ISD has earned an "A" for Superior Achievement under the Texas FIRST Financial Accountability Rating System. This rating is the state's highest, reflecting the quality of the district's financial management and reporting systems.

Slater earned a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in finance from Keller Graduate School of Management and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Stephen F. Austin University.

Slater will officially begin his role at China Spring ISD May 30, 2025.
