Updated Cell Phone and Smart Device Policy

The following message was released to all China Spring ISD families on July 23, 2025.

All China Spring ISD Families,

In the 89th Texas Legislative Session, state lawmakers passed a bill later signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott that will prohibit students from using personal digital communication devices during the school day.

In compliance with the new state law and expanding on current personal device policy, China Spring ISD has updated the cell phone and smart device policy for the 2025–26 school year. The new rules apply to all personal devices, including cell phones, smart watches, and any other communication devices not issued by the district.

Students may still bring these devices to school, but they must be turned off and stored out of sight during instructional hours. Devices should remain in backpacks or lockers and cannot be used or visible during the school day unless the student qualifies for an approved exception outlined in district policy.

Campus Guidelines

High School (Grades 9–12): All personal electronic devices—including cell phones and smart watches—must be turned off and out of sight from 7:50 am to 3:56 pm. Students may use their devices before and after these times.

Primary, Elementary, Intermediate, and Middle Schools (Grades PK–8): Personal electronic devices must be turned off and stored in backpacks or lockers for the entire school day. Students may only use devices after the dismissal bell.

Our goal is to support students in following this policy. If a student uses a personal device during the school day without permission, campus staff will address it in line with our discipline procedures.

This policy helps us create learning environments with fewer distractions and ensures we are in full compliance with state law. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s campus.
