China Spring ISD Teachers Receive Heart of Texas Teacher Mini Grants

Two China Spring ISD educators have been awarded Teacher Mini Grants from the Heart of Texas Electric Cooperative, Inc. through its Operation Round-Up program. The co-op awarded seven grants across the region this year, with two going to projects at China Spring Elementary School.

Second-grade teachers Sarah Stubbs received a $500 grant to launch her "Book Buddies Reading Picnic," a program designed to strengthen literacy skills while encouraging collaboration and communication among students. The project pairs each child with a buddy from another class for shared reading. Students read aloud together to build fluency and expression and discuss the stories to deepen comprehension and vocabulary. Each student will receive a blanket and a new book selected for their reading level and interests, items they can take home to recreate the experience with their families.

Instructional coach Sarah Magnuson also received a $500 grant to expand the school's resource library. Magnuson is developing ready-made interactive stations focused on math and reading skills. These stations will be available for all teachers to check out and use to support instruction in their classrooms.

China Spring ISD is grateful for the support of the Heart of Texas Electric Cooperative and its Operation Round-Up program, which invests in projects that directly benefit students and educators.
