The China Spring ISD School Board met on Monday, April 21, 2025 at 6:00 pm. The School Board highlighted April Faculty and Staff Award winners, received an update from China Spring High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and listened to an important update from China Spring ISD Curriculum and Instruction.
Each month, faculty and staff are recognized for their outstanding contribution to the students at China Spring ISD. These educators are nominated by their campus principals and confirmed by the administration team. Educators are recognized at the School Board meeting and presented with a plaque. China Spring High School teacher Cobey Riedell spoke to the board about the Graphic Design and Multimedia Arts pathway in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. The pathway currently serves 90 students and helps them explore careers in graphic design and animation.
Students begin by learning simple programs like Microsoft Paint, Paint 3D and Canva. Later, they move on to advanced programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Lightroom. One project Riedell shared was a cereal box design. Students first create a flat design that includes a logo, color palette and font. Then, they build a 3D version using Adobe Illustrator.
“This program is a great opportunity to have three years to decide if this is what they want to do,” Riedell said. “It allows them to graduate with a portfolio that showcases more than three years of work.”
Students who complete the pathway can earn certifications in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe After Effects.
Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction Kristen Dutschmann also shared news from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The TEA is releasing new A–F accountability ratings for school districts, including China Spring ISD. These ratings are based on a new scoring system and changes to the STAAR test. More information about the new accountability system is available on the China Spring ISD website. Final ratings can be found on the TEA’s accountability website.
