China Spring ISD Board of Trustees: May meeting Summary

The China Spring ISD School Board met on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 6:00 pm.

Each month, faculty and staff are recognized for their outstanding contribution to the students at CSISD. These educators are nominated by their campus principals and confirmed by the administration team. Educators are recognized at the School Board meeting and presented with a plaque. The Board also administered the Oath of Office to three newly elected trustees. Julie Daniel was sworn into serve her first term representing Placed 1, Ashlee Peacock was sworn in to serve her first term representing Place 2 and Anthony Collier was sworn in to serve his first term representing Place 3. Chief Financial Officer James Slater administered the oath.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, the Board conducted its annual reorganization and elected officers for the upcoming year. Trustees unanimously approved Jeff Bradburn to serve as board president, Travis Louge as vice president and Chris Gerick as secretary.

Trustees also received a presentation from Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction Kristen Dutschmann regarding federal programs and funding that support students and schools across the district. Public schools are required to provide information to the communities they serve about federal funding and how those funds will be used before applying for the funding, as part of an ongoing commitment to transparency and community engagement. The presentation included an overview of Title I Part A, Title 1 Part C, Title II, Title III, and Title IV funding programs, which help provide academic support, professional development, services for English learners and resources designed to meet a wide range of student needs.

During the discussion, board members and community members emphasized the importance of federal funding in supporting student services and educational opportunities. Dutschmann noted the importance of the Free and Reduced Lunch form. Free and Reduced Lunch eligibility is used in the state's accountability system for schools and used in determining Title I Part A programs which provide additional funding to schools. The link to the state's Free and Reduced Lunch Form will be part of the district's online registration process this year and something the district is strongly encouraging all families to complete.

One of the final action items approved by the Board was a new partnership with First Financial Group of America (FFGA) to provide expanded supplemental insurance benefit options for employees. District leaders noted the change will not affect employee health insurance provided through TRS but will enhance available ancillary coverage options, including dental, vision and disability plans.

Because FFGA is a large company, one that serves many districts across Texas, the partnership allows China Spring ISD to offer additional coverage options at more competitive rates for employees without increasing costs to the district.

"At the end of the day, this isn't costing the district any more money, and it's saving our employees money and offering better options," Vice President Travis Louge said.

The motion was approved unanimously by the Board of Trustess.
